Next Woodlands School casino: February 22 & 23, 2026
Every two years, Woodlands School has the opportunity to run a two-day casino at Deerfoot Inn and Casino, or Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. This important event generates a great deal of revenue - tens of thousands of dollars - that goes back to our school!
The event runs throughout the day and overnight for a period of 48-hours and requires A LOT of volunteers.
Volunteer roles
All volunteers are offered snacks, drinks and a meal during their shift.

The general manager supervises all aspects of the casino, ensuring the casino is conducted according to the laws. They work closely with the casino facility games manager.

The banker supervises the cash cage. This includes documenting all cash cage transactions, ensuring the security of the chips and cash in the cash cage, and holding the cashiers accountable for the chips and cash they manage while on duty. They report to the general manager and are responsible for cashiers and chip runners.

Cashiers interact directly with casino players and cash out their chips. Any transactions over $200 must be witnessed by the general manager, banker or cash cage advisor. They report to the banker and work with the general manager, banker, financial control supervisor, advisor, and casino players.

Chip runners open and close tables, deliver chip fills from the banker to game tables, deliver credits from game tables to the banker and may assist the general manager with other duties. They report to the banker and work with the general manager and gaming table personnel.

The count room supervisor is responsible for all count room staff and procedures. They report to the general manager, and work with the general manager and banker. This position is responsible for the sorters, counters and amalgamator.

Count room volunteers take on one of four possible jobs:
Sorter: Sorts all cash or chips by denomination.
Counter: Counts the sorted cash or chips, by denomination.
Recorder: Records the number of bills, coins, and chips counted AGLC.
Amalgamator: Verifies the cash or chips counted and groups them into bundles and summarizes the cash and chips with the count room supervisor.
